Focus Center

Vision and Purpose:
The Focus Center provides a temporary, self-directed learning environment for students facing academic or behavioral challenges that prevent success in traditional classrooms. Through independent study with individualized teacher support, students maintain their academic credits and skills while developing the capacity to manage their own learning; preparing them to succeed in their next educational environment.

Mission Statement:
The Focus Center is dedicated to empowering students who face academic and social challenges by providing personalized education and support. We aim to create a nurturing environment where every student can work towards their academic goals and develop skills necessary for success in life.

FAQs

  • What is the Focus Center? The Focus Center serves as a temporary, self-directed educational environment for students who face academic and/or social challenges and are unable to participate in a traditional school setting.

  • What will I do while attending the Focus Center?
    • Attend the Focus Center based on your assigned schedule.
    • Work on your coursework independently primarily at home and during your time at the Center.
    • Use your time at the Center to ask questions and get help when needed.

    • Most of your progress will depend on the effort you put in outside of the Focus Center.

In simple terms: Take ownership of your work. Use your time wisely. Stay on track.

  • How much work should I be completing each week?
  • You should complete at least 2-3 packets per week.

    Contact number: 435-628-2462 ext. 5245

  • Does the Focus Center offer the same classes as my school? No. The Focus Center does not have the capacity of a traditional school and therefore cannot provide the same number or type of classes. We offer core subjects and limited electives.

  • Can I make up credit or get ahead in credits by attending the Focus Center? This depends entirely on how many credits the student has already earned before being referred, the subjects available at the Focus Center, and the amount of work completed. Though not impossible, it is extremely rare for a student to get ahead in credits here.

  • How long will I be attending the Focus Center? Every student at the Focus Center has been referred by their school. This should have been discussed with administrators from your school, and you should know clearly when you are expected to return. If you are unsure about the length of your stay, please discuss this as soon as possible with Harold and Angie.
